What is Focused Cardiac Ultrasound?
FCU is a focused examination of the cardiovascular system performed by a physician by using ultrasound as an adjunct to the physical examination to recognize specific ultrasonic signs that represent a narrow list of potential diagnoses in specific clinical settings.
The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) recognise that echocardiography permits rapid assessment of cardiac size, structure, function, and hemodynamics as well as being sensitive and specific for a broad range of clinical disorders. Ultrasound images can be evaluated in real time, which allows rapid diagnostic interpretation in a wide variety of settings, such as the critical care unit, emergency department, and operating room.
